Since
the introduction of the Landfill Diversion Targets for
biodegradable waste, and the introduction of national government
recycling targets, recycling is one of the first steps
towards creating a sustainable future! In order to do
these we need reliable and cost effective collection
systems to be able to do this. Whether its refuse
or recycling containers you are looking for, or refuse
collection vehicles, there are a wide variety of
different types and sizes on the market to suit
different needs. Kerbside
Boxes
Ranging in size, kerbside boxes are used
for collecting various types of recyclate from
households. Typical systems include 2 boxes, often one
for paper and one for dry mixed recyclables. The
recyclate is collected in kerbsider collection vehicles
and can be either sorted at the kerb side by the
collectors, or taken to a Materials Recycling Facility
for sorting. Wheeled
Bins
From 140 litres through to 1280 litres,
wheeled bins are the most common container used for
recycling in the UK and abroad. Many different types of
recycling schemes are used to suit different
circumstances. An example is a three bin system
comprising of 1 for garden waste, 1 for paper and 1 for
mixed recyclates. The residual wheeled bin collection is
often reduced to a fortnightly collection, as the need
for a weekly collection is reduced by the new recycling
services. Sacks/Bags
Sacks are often used in places that have
no storage facilities for wheeled bins. They are often
used for paper collections, and sacks or survival bags
are often found in tenemental and flatted properties. Skips
Skip containers are used for larger
producers of waste and vary in sizes, depending on the
volume and type of waste produced. Private companies and
Local Authorities often provide a skip hire service.. We
have created an Online
Environmental Directory to detail
manufacturers of these types of containers and others.
